Quem Sou

Being in isolation since 2020, due to the worldwide pandemic, has been, for me, an incredibly challenging journey of self-discovery and growth.

A sense of blossoming occurred in my life, a shift that cleared the permanent and stressful noisiness, uncertainty and doubt. I feel there has been a sort of tearing away from the self I have grown to know over the years.

Through painting, I am managing to dig deep inside myself, connect to my emotions and express them in a free, intuitive, raw, authentic and spontaneous manner. Painting from within, is the materialization of my inner voice.

I am embracing change, knowing that nothing will be the same, but I am certain that from these ruins, new beautiful and amazing things will grow.

Intuitive, Sensory and Explosive.
YES, THAT IS ALEXANDRA MALO

The urge. The tingle. The tiny voice in your head. These are all ways your intuition is talking to you. Intuitive painting is the process of allowing each layer of paint to inform what comes next. It’s about self-love embracing the mystery, exercising non-attachment, exploring and expressing the Voice, and playing with paint. The process requires letting go of fear or expectations to allow the painting to evolve based on heart callings, visions, and play. Including happy accidents.

Alexandra decided to make painting her voice her main activity. I discovered Alexandra´s work on Instagram. Her abstract play with textures, landscapes, colors and lines is very intriguing. It arouses the curiosity or interest in the unusual. The fascinating or compelling qualities appeal and captivate.

I find many of her paintings explosive. Look at "Blast" for example; a very dynamic painting. It is intuitive, sensory and explosive, and t’s beautiful. Or look at "Atlantis", an ice-cold dynamic acrylic painting with very interesting textures. “Alentejo”, an abstract acrylic landscape painting on canvas, is pure joy for your eyes. Sublime is a word that comes to mind. She identifies with Abstract Expressionists or Action Painters.

Alexandra was born in Angola (Africa) in 1966. She is the youngest and only girl of 3 siblings. She comes from a very well known family linked to science. She got used to being the emotional one. Her mother and grandmother were self-taught painters and from a very young age she was encouraged to play with colour and to express herself through mark making.

Come and see Alexandra’s first exhibition with 50 art works - A SENSE OF [E]MOTION – it is taking place at the Artview Gallery in Lisbon in October 2021.
